Artist’s statement:
“100 seemed like a lot, although the number of abandoned houses in Detroit is more like 12,000. Encompassing an area of over 138 square miles, Detroit has enough room to hold the land mass of San Francisco, Boston, and Manhattan Island, yet the population has fallen from close to 2 million citizens, to most likely less than 800,000. With such a dramatic decline, the abandoned house problem is not likely to go away any time soon.”

T.S. Geisel started as a political cartoonist and eventually realized that honey is sweeter than vinegar, and began using his children’s stories to examine deep socio-political problems he saw in the world.
As kids it’s our responsibility to let the story infect our imaginations, and as adults it’s our responsibility to let the message infect our intellects.On the surface these titles might seem a bit crazy, but in the words of Dr. Suess himself “being crazy isn’t enough.”
Whether these people know what the sign says or not, these photos highlight something crazy happening in the world right now.
The bombing in Boston has been a shock of anger and sadness for many in America, but from half-way across the world people can empathize. We forget that what happened on Monday happens constantly in other parts of the world, and that those far off people aren’t too different from us when it comes to understanding pain.Whether its empathy or a gimmick, I appreciate how these photos bridge a gap that many people didn’t even know existed.
Instead of pointing out how spoiled we are in America for not knowing the daily fear of bombings, we should strive to help make everywhere as spoiled as us.

This is some of the most amazing and disturbing footage I’ve ever seen. The amount of heart and terror is fairly unsettling, and I warn you that in spite of the absence of any blood or human violence this clip is hard to watch.
The orca Kasatka at SeaWorld San Diego recently dragged her trainer Ken Peters under water multiple times as Ken maintained his calm and life as best he could. The care this animal took to both scare and preserve the frail life it held in its jaws is as admirable as the trainer’s efforts to subdue the gentle giant. We forget that our life began simple and single-celled just like the killer whale’s own evolution. But we can learn a lot from the tender mercy that both creatures displayed in this video.
This is the single most attractive gif set that has ever been gif-ed.
